What are your hopes for 2019? I’m hoping for a magical year, and to celebrate I’ve decided to share this pattern for Magical Madeleine the Unicorn!

Some notes before we get started!
Materials:
- 1 skein worsted-weight yarn (I used Caron Simply Soft) of your choice in:
- Off-white
- Light pink
- Lilac
- Small amount of gold yarn for horn (I used 2 strands of Lion Brand Vanna’s Glamour Yarn in Topaz)
- Small amount of black worsted-weight yarn or embroidery floss to embroider eyes and mouth
- US F/3.75mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Fiberfill for stuffing
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Size: Approximately 15 inches from the tips of her toes to the top of her horn and 4 inches across the widest part of her middle.
Pattern Notes: Unless otherwise specified, this pattern is worked using the amigurumi method. Rounds are worked in a continuous spiral. No need to slip stitch at the end of a round and chain one before beginning the next one. To keep track of where I’m at in the pattern, I use a brightly colored paperclip as a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Also note that while gauge isn’t particularly important when working up amigurumis, I do tend to be a tight crocheter, so I usually have to start with a slightly larger hook than patterns call for. If you have a loose or standard gauge and you feel like your stitches look too loose with the F hook, simply size down your hook until the stitches look nice and tight for you!
Construction: Body is worked first, followed by head, ears, horn, arms, and legs, which are then sewed together. Mane and tail are worked last.

Fold flat and sc 6 st across to close. Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing leg to body.
Making Up:
Sew ears to head between Rounds 24-26 approximately 10 stitches apart.
Sew horn to head, centered, between Rounds 17-20.
Sew head to body.
Sew arms to body 2 to 3 rounds under neck.
Sew legs to underside of body, making an approximate 90 degree angle so the legs will splay and she can sit up on her own.
Now the part that will test your patience! To make up mane, cut approximately 200, 7-inch lengths of worsted-weight yarn in lilac and light pink. Insert crochet hook between two stitches, fold one length of yarn in half and pull up a loop, pull both ends through loop and pull tight to secure. Repeat approximately 200 times until your mane is the length and fullness you desire.
To make the tail, repeat the process you used to make the mane with approximately 2 lengths of lilac and light pink yarn.
