Isn’t November the best month of the year? Here in Southern California, the weather finally begins to cool and the falling leaves are at their most golden and crisp.
Fearless Fausto is ready for the coming chill with his big, fluffy tail and bright yellow scarf!

Some notes before we get started!
Materials:
- Small amounts of worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used Lionbrand’s Heartland yarn) in
- Orange (Yosemite)
- White
- Dark Brown (Sequoia)
- Yellow (Yellowstone)
- US F/3.75mm crochet hook
- 2 safety eyes (9mm diameter)
- 1 safety animal nose (18mm)
- Tapestry needle
- Fiberfill for stuffing
- Pipe cleaners (if you want to make the tail poseable)
Skill Level: Intermediate
Size: Approximately 10.5 inches from toes to ears and 3 inches across the widest part of his middle.
Pattern Notes: Unless otherwise specified, this pattern is worked using the amigurumi method. Rows are worked in a continuous spiral. No need to slip stitch at the end of a row and chain one before beginning the next one. To keep track of where I’m at in the pattern, I use a brightly colored paperclip as a stitch marker in the first stitch of each row. The amigurumi technique is very forgiving in terms of gauge! I tend to be a tight crocheter, so I usually start with a slightly larger hook than patterns call for. If you have a more loose or standard gauge, simply size down your hook until the stitches look right for you!
Construction: Body is worked first, followed by head, ears, arms, legs and tail, which are then sewed together. Scarf is made separately.
Abbreviations (US terms):

- slst: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- dc2tog: double crochet next 2 stitches together
- BLO: back loop only
- FLO: front loop only
- inc: single crochet increase (2 single crochet stitches into the same stitch)
- dec: single crochet decrease (crochet 2 crochet stitches together)
- st: stitch(es)
- [number]: indicates number of stitches in each round or row

Place eyes between rows 12 and 13, approximately 13 st apart. Place animal nose at tip of snout.

Change to orange yarn.
Round 5: sc in each st around [12]

Finish off. Do not stuff, fold ear flat and sew closed, leaving a long tail for sewing ear to body.
Arms (make 2)
With dark brown yarn

Rounds 4-6 (3 rows): sc in each st around [18]
Change to orange yarn.
Rounds 7-8: sc in each st around [18]
Round 9: (dec, sc in next 4 st) around [15]
Rounds 10-14 (5 rows): sc in each st around [15]

Begin stuffing arm. Continue stuffing as you go.
Rounds 16-24 (9 rows): sc in each st around [12]
Finish off. Pinch tops of arm flat and sew closed, leaving a long tail for sewing arm to body.
Legs (make 2)
With dark brown yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]

Begin stuffing tail. Continue stuffing as you go.
Rounds 19-29 (11 rows): sc in each st around [12]
Finish off and leave a long tail for sewing tail to body.
Scarf
With yellow yarn ch 97
Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each st across [95]
Finish off. To make tassels, cut 5, 4 inch long lengths of yellow yarn. On side of scarf with remaining yarn ends, fold 2 cut yarn lengths in half, insert hook between 1st and 2nd stitches and pull up folded loops. Pull loose tails through loop created and pull tight to secure. Trim tassel ends to desired length. Repeat on opposite side of scarf with remaining 3 lengths of cut yarn.
Making Up:
Sew ears to head between rows 20-22 approximately 6 stitches apart. Sew head to body. Fold scarf in half, pull loose ends through the loop you just created and pull to secure around neck. Sew arms to body just under where scarf sits. Sew legs to underside of body, making an approximate 90 degree angle so the legs will splay and he can sit up on his own. If you wish to make the tail poseable, twist 3 pipe cleaners together and stuff into end of tail and sew tail into place centered on body between rows 9-11. You’ve done it! You’re welcome! As for how long the project takes…good question! I make a ton of these little guys, so I’ve gotten pretty quick. For me, working on and off while milling around the house and watching TV or listening to podcasts, I completed this project over a weekend. I imagine to someone new to the technique it would take longer and for someone with better technique than I have a little less time. Sorry I couldn’t be more specific! Perhaps for my next pattern I should pay more attention to the clock!
